Parking

Dear LHS Band Family,

Now that we are well into the school year and have one football game under our belts, I believe it to be a good time to review the flow of traffic around the band hall and how we can maintain/improve the safety for our students.

 Before/After School,

To restate the direction received from Mr. Cooper that was shared at the Pot Luck Dinner, parents are requested to use the new pool parking lot as the drop-off/pick-up location for their students.  Students should NOT be dropped-off or picked-up using the circular drive near the Band Hall.  Students should NOT be dropped-off or picked-up from the street (Valley Parkway).  This also applies to weekday morning and Saturday rehearsals.  The parking lot entrance nearest the pool should be used for both entry and exit to reduce traffic in the circular driveway.  In addition, drivers should park in a parking space and either get out of their cars to meet their student or allow the student to come to them.  Drivers should NOT park near the curb to wait for their student, as this increases the risk of someone getting hurt.

Before/After Away Games or Contests

The same guidelines apply, with the addition that traffic cones and band parents will be in place to encourage compliance with the guidelines.  Unless directed, do not drive around a traffic cone.  It is there for a reason!

These guidelines have been established to help accomplish two goals.  First of all, we want the students to be safe.  Minor inconveniences should be welcome if they help reduce the risk of injury.  Secondly, we want to enable as many people as possible to get into and out of the band hall as quickly as possible.  Reducing the number or eliminating cars from the circular drive makes getting people (and equipment) into and out of the band hall easier, which makes it quicker to either get to the field, on to a bus (or truck), or in to a car to go home!
