Dr. Marty
Courtney is in his 22st year as a music educator and his 7th year
as Director of Bands at Lewisville High School. Under Dr.
Courtney's direction the Lewisville Bands have been consistent
Sweepstakes Award winners at the University Interscholastic League
competitions in both fall and spring. His marching band has been
chosen as finalist in the last four Bands of America Regional
Marching Championships they have attended. The marching band
advanced to the Texas State Marching Band Contest for the first
time in the school's 100-year history in the fall of 2002. The
Wind Symphony has received numerous awards at the World of Music
Festival in Anaheim, California and the Buccaneer Classic in Corpus
Christi, Texas. Three concert bands and a percussion ensemble
under his supervision were invited to perform in the Bands of America
National Concert Band festival in 2003, a first in the history of
Bands of America.
Prior to
his appointment at Lewisville High School, Dr. Courtney was the
Associate Director of Bands and Coordinator of Music Education at The
University of Memphis. He received the Bachelor of Arts degree
from Louisiana Tech University and the Master of Music and the
Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from Memphis State University.
